Prepare for our first meeting

Remodeling your home can be a large financial investment. Oftentimes, it's frustrating for the homeowners not to know exactly what their project will cost before they make any kind of real commitment. Project Plus can give you a “ballpark” estimate based on the size of the project, general information that you provide and by matching historical data to your project. With your help, in most cases, we can establish a budget range at our first meeting.

It is not until we've worked together with you to assess the full project scope in terms of design, structure and finishes that we can give you a realistic cost for your project. As designers and builders we can examine the trade-offs of all your project's structural, financial, and design challenges at the same time.

First, prepare a “wish list” of issues that you would like to address with your home. Order them by priority, if the costs exceed the budget, what things would you cut first? Think about why you want to change or add the space? Draw a floor plan or sketch of what you envision your project to be, think about placing things like windows and doors, furniture and window treatments, flooring, fixtures and other finishes. The sketches don't have to be accurate or to scale; you just want to illustrate the ideas. Look through books and magazines about building, remodeling and decorating, mark things you like or that are similar to what you want to do. This will help us evaluate the various design solutions so the total project will work within your budget constraints.

Secondly, you need to devote some serious thought about what the project might cost and your budget parameters. We understand that many homeowners have no idea of the cost of their project. There are many variables that go into the cost of a project and the selection of a contractor: quality of products, workmanship, service, guarantees of work and so on. We find it helpful to give our clients a general and realistic idea of what different types of projects may cost at the quality level of service, product and craftsmanship we provide. Review the following projects and related costs for a better sense of their scope.

Note: These costs are only approximate, and should be used as a budgeting tool only. There are many factors that change the price of a project. Every project is unique and so is the cost of having it completed.
